The Benefit of Limiting Beliefs

Talk to most “self-improvement” gurus, and they’ll tell you that Limiting Beliefs are the Enemy.

They’re not entirely wrong.  Limiting beliefs do prevent you from living the kind of robust, engaged, fulfilled life you were made for.

But what they’re not telling you is that there are actually profound benefits to your Limiting Beliefs.

Yep, you read that right.

Benefits.

You see, we live in a world of grace and power.  Thus, even things that appear to us to be negative or painful can actually be extremely useful and productive.

In the case of limiting beliefs, the primary benefit is contained in this simple truth: your Limiting Beliefs, as painful as they might be, point you to something that is profoundly true about you…something that can help you thrive and succeed.

Here’s an example.

Let’s say that someone insists to you that the sky is red.  How much angst or frustration would that cause you?  Probably none.  You might think them strange…you might wonder what’s wrong with them…you might pat them on the head and try to humor them.

But because you understand that their claim is absolutely, completely false, it doesn’t reel you in.

It doesn’t “hook” you or trigger you emotionally.

Limiting Beliefs are limiting because they contain elements of truth.  They are the dark side, or the shadow side, of something deeply wonderful and divine about you.

Thus, when you flip them over, you make important self-discoveries that you never would have had the opportunity to make otherwise.  The pain of the limiting beliefs has spurred you into reflection, into resolution, into truth.

And as the scripture says, the truth will set you free.

When you think of it that way, it’s a pretty awesome benefit after all, isn’t it?

Beyond Limiting Beliefs – Part 2

Treat the Cause NOT the Symptom

In my last blog I talked about what limiting beliefs are and the purpose they serve.

This time I’m going to look at the real cause of the problem at its source. (Hint: it’s NOT the limiting belief)

Most people don’t realize that all of life’s obstacles and challenges are self-created.

People waste massive amounts of time trying to solve their surface problems by attempting to change, control and/or avoid the situation or person they believe caused their pain.

You probably know someone who attends endless seminars and courses on personal growth searching for the answer and never finding it.

Have you ever asked yourself why it’s such a hopeless quest?

It’s because these programs don’t get at the root cause of the problem. They try to deal with the symptom. It’s like putting a Band-Aid on an open infection hoping it will go away on its own.

Then there are the people who are convinced everyone else is responsible for their suffering. They complain endlessly about their husband, wife, kids, job etc. never realizing that the only way to transform the situation is through themselves.

Yes, it’s both the good news and the bad news. You are the creator of your present life! Let’s focus on the good news, which is that because you created your life through your deeply held beliefs you can chose to recreate yourself in keeping with your True self, the self God intended for you.

So.. what do you need to do to get started on the journey of true, permanent change?

1) Acknowledge to yourself that whatever your life is now is a reflection of your beliefs.

2) Overcome the illusion that your reality is something that needs to be controlled and changed. It is simply an extension of your most dominant beliefs.

3) In order to fully experience all the joy and love life has to offer you must get at the root cause of your pain so you can transform it.

4) Transforming your beliefs means bringing them to conscious awareness so that you can work with the meaning and interpretations you have established around them.

5) Your limiting beliefs hide the reality of your true self.

6) Through state of the art techniques and neurological conditioning you can receive profound clarity about your true self and God given identity.

Now that you have a good understanding of the purpose of limiting beliefs and how to get at their root cause you are well on your way to transformation.

My challenge to you is to start questioning why you behave the way you do. The more automatic your response, the more likely it is being driven by a subconscious belief.

Pick a situation that repeatedly causes you pain and begin to become aware of yourself in the situation. How are you feeling, what are you thinking, what is your automatic response? The stronger the emotion the more likely you have hit a personal belief jackpot. Over the next week keep a journal, recording what you observe about yourself. Commit fully to this exercise and you will be taking a profound step towards transformation.

Beyond Limiting Beliefs: Part 1

What is a Limiting Belief?

Do you want personal transformation? Are you serious about creating personal change in your life? Then you have to understand your deeply held beliefs.

Most of your beliefs were formed early and are subconscious.

It’s hard to know which beliefs support your goals, dreams and desires and which don’t. The ones that undermine your dreams and goals are surely limiting you.

We know some of our beliefs severely limit our potential and ability to be as big as we are. Beliefs like “I’m not good enough”, “I can’t……”, “I’m not very smart” etc. run through most people’s minds on a regular basis Tripping them up left, right and center.

Contrary to most others in the human growth industry, I believe that limiting beliefs are designed to serve a purpose. So rather than getting rid of them, you need to understand where they came from and why you adopted them in the first place.

In fact, limiting beliefs have gotten a bad rap. Here are the facts:

1) Fact: The primary purpose of the human nervous system is to keep you safe. Its operating system is based on protection and survival.

2) Fact: The human nervous system intuitively knows to protect those things that are most valuable to you i.e. your life and identity.

3) Fact: Once your beliefs are programmed at the level of the subconscious mind they are programmed for life. That includes your beliefs about yourself, your potential and your reality.

4) Fact: Your subconscious mind makes no distinction between managing your internal bodily systems and managing the belief systems you hold to be true about yourself. Both are maintained as if your life depends on it.

5) Fact: The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between a supporting belief and a limiting belief. It simply protects what it’s been programmed with.

Important Point:

Your limiting beliefs are the keys that unlock the treasure chest of your truth! Without discovering what your beliefs are protecting you will never realize the most important aspect of your human existence: your TRUE self. Your True self is your spiritual essence and the pure form you were intended to be.

When you know what your beliefs are protecting you will automatically reveal the most important aspects of who you are as a person and who God created you to be. You will receive insight and revelation as to your purpose, destiny and ultimate life direction.

In Part 2, I will be discussing just how to treat the cause of limiting beliefs NOT the symptoms, so stay tuned as we explore deeper into the world of limiting beliefs.
